The island Samos suffers from the refugee crisis. It's the closest connection with Turkey mainland more exactly to the place Izmir.

Near the shore line U can find many remainals of boats. usually inflatable rubber boats everywhere from strandings throughtout all the year.

I visited a museum about the strandings. In this exposition , main issues were described

Not only locals who make business of refugees, also selective procedures of NGO's cause troubles ..

Trip A - Souma Festival in Kastania

Local festivities in Kastania

In this mountain village they make the traditional strong liquor called ' SOUMA'.

Way to strong for a Belgian like me, with about 40 % of alcohol.

Should u give it a try ? Why not ...

And why not dancing local dances ?

Trip B - Manolates

Manolates

 This pittoresque town has amazing culture of ceramics.Since I like to make art myself, I felt like in the place to be !

Trip C- Mount Kerkis

 Mount Kerkis

A group of young and adventurous volunteers;Agniezka Ciemiega, Laura Jurkuviciute, Sarii , Martyna Irska and Jeroen Bossens, decided to climb mount Kerkis!

And we all made it to the top !

Trip D - Karvouni

Trip D - Karvouni

Another brave group of volunteers decided to leave for a trip to Karvouni, the second highest peak of Samos Island in Greece.

It was an amazing experience and after 2 hours of hiking we reached the top , from Vourliotes.

Who were the brave ? Monika Lin, Melanie Eichorn, Jeroen Bossens, Lina Davolinite and Sara...

Trip E - Ikaria

Trip E - Ikaria

I went alone to the popular island Ikaria. Ikaria is for instance known because of the Ikarus story, where Ikarus was attempting to reach an ultimate altitude with his wings of wax ... Unfortunately they melted after reaching a close distance to the sun .. Ikaria is also famous because of it's high life expectancy.

 I decided to rent a car and discover this pittoresque and traditional island. Here U can see for instance how the bread is brought around from the old town ...

All the signs are made by traditional painting, it gives the island a traditional 'trend' ..

I met a Spanish artist living and working on the island of Ikaria.

The fishes are also astonishing in this Island. For instance many wrasses ( Thallasomo pavo), many dusky spinefoot ( Siganus luridus) and marbled spinefoot ( Siganus rivulatus) can be spotted !
